What is the Appliance Safe Register?
The Appliance Safe Register is a voluntary scheme designed much like Gas Safe or NICEIC and others, to provide evidence of competency and training.
The appliance repair sector has, like every other sector, those that set up, in this case, as appliance repair engineers, with no training or knowledge in electrical safety.
An appliance repair engineer can only be aligned to a registered business and be issued with a license to undertake appliance repair and servicing work on behalf of a registered business if they hold valid and current training and prove competency by a training certificate from a recognised training provider or organisation.
The aim of the Appliance Safe Register
The aim of the Appliance Safe Register is help householders distinguish between the untrained and potentially dangerous and the trained and competent engineer, when they look at booking a visit to their homes to effect a repair or service to a domestic appliance.
The householder can search for or verify the engineers credentials by visiting our website.
Once approved and training has been verified your details will be added to the Appliance Safe Register and your Appliance Safe Card will be issued.
The Photo ID card includes your member number, registration expiry date and the training you have received.
The benefit of being registered as an Appliance Safe Engineer or Organisation is proof of credentials and competency.
This brings confidence to the households you or your engineers visit.
If employed or looking for work, your details can be quickly looked up and verified.
Insurance Companies when approving Public Liability Insurance, and Work Providers, can also reference you information as a way of proving that you are trained and a competent person.
The Appliance Safe Register has 4 levels
BLUE for newly trained engineers with less than 5 years experience
Silver for engineers that have been trained and working in the industry for more than FIVE years
Gold for engineers that have been trained and working in the industry for more than TEN years
Orange for organisations that work in the appliance service and repair sector. Individual registration of employees will still be required.
The Register is not a membership body or trade association and is operated by the Institute for White Goods Engineers.
